To my knowledge, there were no companies looking at the excavation for the project. I knew the project, having recently completed Phase 1. Probst Electric was the subcontractor for Phase 1 and they were bidding Phase 2. Layton Construction was the General Contractor for the University. I spoke to Probst and said I could do Phase 2. Some eyebrows were lifted and after some thought and discussion they would accept a proposal from me. When Probst was selected to do Phase 2, they called me to their office and offered the project to me. I had a day to think about it and accept. I remember the day clearly. It was also my wife’s birthday. I accepted the following day and quit my job the next morning. I had two and half weeks to get my insurances in place, hire employees, secure equipment and begin excavation. I reached out to a friend, Ken Potter to help with the excavation. With his team and mine, we started July 14, 2014. We dug and backfilled almost 5 miles of trenches and excavated for electrical vaults. Relationships that I created in the 17 years prior supported me when I called on them to help with trucking, paving or saw cutting. It was amazing how everything came together. Over the past 6 years, we have worked for Layton Construction, Okland Construction, Jacobsen Construction, Big-D Construction and other general contractors. We have worked directly with developers such as Gardner Company and Wadsworth Development. Today, in 2021, Siri Contracting has completed or is in the process of finishing our first 100 projects. We have over 90 incredible members of our company. Ted has always been drawn to heavy equipment. Ted’s career in the construction industry started in 1997 when he accepted a position as an estimator/project manager for an excavation contractor in Salt Lake City, Utah. Over the next 17 years, he worked as an estimator and project manager for site work contractors and a demolition contractor. Ted has worked on some pretty amazing projects and has created some incredible relationships. In 2014, Ted decided to follow his dreams and through a series of events, was able to take on a contract at the University of Utah to excavate and backfill electrical trenches for an electrical upgrade project. With only two and half weeks to secure equipment, hire people and get a project started; it was a monumental task and at times felt overwhelming.
